Brad holds a BS in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado. After leaving college, things pretty much went downhill. Trained as a structural engineer, he realized a distinct pattern of being laid off on his one-year anniversary with the first three engineering firms he worked for. At that point, he began wondering if the 'poor economy' was really to blame and realized the only way he was going to remain employed was to start something himself.
He was on the founding team of a start-up masonry coatings company, he formed a successful engineering consulting firm and was one of the founders of CadZooks, a software company that was purchased by Autodesk in 1996.
SketchUp is the result of years and years of frustration of trying to push people up the 3D learning curve. With over 15 years of experience with 3D software, Brad has proven over and over again the power of designing in 3D. It was the desire to make 3D easy and accessible to everyone that brought Brad and Joe Esch together to form @Last Software in late 1999.
@Last was acquired by Google in March 2006.
No one is exactly sure what Brad does these days at Sketchup, but when not working, he would prefer to be on the water windsurfing or kite-boarding. He also has been seen mountain biking, snow boarding and chasing the perfect margarita. |
