Calling startups

A startup in Boulder has a very targeted market - other startups in software, technology and the Web.
TechStars is sponsoring an inaugural summer program to provide $15,000 in seed funding to selected applicants "plus the chance to pitch angel investors and venture capitalists at the end of the summer."

The price to pay for the seed funding is giving up "5 percent of the initial equity in your company." In return, they'll get access to a veritable Who's Who of 30 Colorado entrepreneurs as experts and mentors
.
These include Darren Crystal, founder and CTO of Photobucket; Brad Feld, managing director of Mobius Venture Capital; Jared Polis, founder of ProFlowers.com; Greg Reinacker, founder and CTO of Newsgator; and Brad Schell, founder and board member of Google/Sketchup.

Only 10 applicants nationwide are accepted into the program, which runs from May 21 through Aug. 17 in Boulder. Applications, due March 31, require answering 28 questions online (including "How will your company make money?") at www.techstars.org.

David Cohen, executive director of TechStars, says the purpose is "to promote entrepreneurial activity in Colorado and connect the current generation of Colorado entrepreneurs with the next." - The Denver Post
